Buenos Aires to Australia - Trop Jr Spills Across the Sea

Trop Jr has announced its first ever international finalist - Marcos Krivocapich, a 15 year old filmmaker from Argentina.

Krivocapich’s film – shot on the streets of Buenos Aires will be screened to thousands of Trop Jr fans live in Australia on Sunday 19 February 2012.

Krivocapich is competing alongside twelve other talented filmmakers shortlisted for the world’s largest short film festival - for kids, by kids. The top youngsters come from all over Australia, proving that location isn’t an obstacle to making a winning film and having your voice heard.

The main Tropfest competition has exploded internationally over the past year, with the first ever Tropfest Arabia competition taking place in November 2011 and Tropfest New York set for July 2012. Tropfest Managing Director, Michael Laverty, says it’s exciting to see Tropfest’s reach around the globe. “We’re so thrilled to see filmmakers from all backgrounds and all ages getting involved in Trop Jr. Whether separated by state lines or oceans, Trop Jr aims to bring young filmmakers together to share stories and showcase their creative talent.” Movie Extra Tropfest celebrates a milestone this year with its 20th competition. Organisers have 3 days of filmmaking events planned, from VIP events to parties, a symposium (known as “Roughcut”) and special screenings.

From Buenos Aires to Brisbane, Trop Jr is about encouraging kids to explore their creative talents, get experience in filmmaking and get their storytelling juices flowing. The winner receives a huge cash prize of $2,500 thanks to new major partner, LOL 99% fizzy fruit juice; a digital video camera and filmmaking experience from ABC3 and $1,000 worth of short courses through the Australian Film Television and Radio School. Two Runners up each receive $1,000 worth of Onitsuka Tiger products as well as $750 in equipment hire and post-production facilities at Metro Screen, Sydney.

Back for the second year, the Onitsuka Tiger Prize for Fearless Filmmaking recognises brave and bold filmmaking. The winner receives Onitsuka Tiger merchandise and a commission to create a 3-minute short film inspired by the Onitsuka Tiger brand. The winner is paired up with a past Tropfest finalist who will guide and mentor the junior filmmaker through the entire filmmaking process. Trop Jr will be held at The Domain in Sydney on Sunday 19 February, with fantastic pre-show entertainment from ABC3 from 11am and the main show kicking off at midday with the screening of all 13 Finalist Films. Trop Jr events are also being held in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide.
