English indie rock band The Kooks were formed at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music by four students - Luke Pritchard, Hugh Harris, Paul Garred and Max Rafferty - in 2004.
Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Luke Pritchard has said in the past that, "The greatest records in the world can be put on in any situation: you can put them on at a party and they're going to sound great, you could put them on in a club and they're going to sound great, you could put them on on your headphones and listen in bed. That's when you get a great album."
With this motto in mind, the band launched their debut album Inside In/Inside Out in 2006 and it proved to be was a huge hit, selling some 2 million copies worldwide and spawning massive singles 'She Moves In Her Own Way', 'You Don't Love Me', 'Sofa Song', 'Eddie's Gun', 'Ooh La' and especially 'Naïve'.
The Brighton quartet was catapulted to the forefront of the UK music scene and began playing in front of sell-out crowds in the UK and the rest of the world including the hard-to-crack US market and earning a support slot with The Rolling Stones along the way.
Despite the departure of founding member Max Rafferty in early 2008 due to personal issues, there was no stopping the momentum of the band and his replacement Dan Logan. In April 2008, the Kooks released their sophomore album Konk which went straight to #1 on the UK Albums chart. The album was named after the London studio where it was recorded and has spawned the hit single 'Always Where I Need to Be'.
The special edition double disc version of Konk features seven new songs not included on the album and is entitled RAK - named after the studio where it was recorded.
The Kooks are currently embarking on a world tour with shows in London, New York, LA, Vancouver, Berlin, Madrid, Tokyo and many more.
