THE BRAND NEW HEAVIES
1ST EVER AUSTRALIAN TOUR – AUGUST 2010

Illusive Entertainment is proud to announce that legendary British soul funk band “The Brand New Heavies” [TBNH] are finally making their way to Australia for their first ever live shows, in intimate venues in Sydney and Melbourne. If that wasn’t enough to get people excited, “The Brand New Heavies” Australian Tour will consist of the four original members - Simon Bartholomew on guitar, Jan Kincaid on drums, Andrew Levy playing bass and fan favorite original lead singer N’Dea Davenport on vocals.

With a career spanning more then two decades to date, TBNH were instrumental in the development of the London based Acid Jazz scene, with other notable long standing career artists such as Jamiroquai and Incognito.

In 1990, the Heavies found its voice with the addition of N’Dea Davenport, when introduced to the band via their US label, Delicious Vinyl. It didn’t take long for the group to score a US No. 3 R&B hit with “Never Stop,” a highlight from its self-titled debut album. Their second album “Heavy Rhyme Experience: Vol. 1”, featured the group pairing with rappers like Grand Puba, Kool G. Rap and Gang Starr’s Guru, among others. The album solidified the group’s standing in both the rap and R&B worlds.

The Heavies continued to gain momentum both in UK and America in the 90s where they notched up a string of Top 20 hits with tracks such as - “Never Stop,” “Stay This Way”, “Dream on Dreamer” and “Sometimes” - established the Heavies as a creative and commercial force whose influence helped birth the neo soul movement, the acclaimed artistic explosion of the mid 1990s that included D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and a host of others.

In 2005 and after a decade apart the original Heavies – Jan, Andrew, Simon and N’Dea – got back together, reforming after meeting in New York to discuss working together again. The band released a critically acclaimed new album in 2006 called “Get Used To It” and have been touring almost continuously since then. In 2009 they released their first ever live album – “Live In London”, and have performed in the US on Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel TV shows to name a few, and continue to perform all over the world at a wide variety of Festivals and venues including more recently a co-headlining American tour with Macy Gray and headlining The Capital Jazz Festival in Washington DC.
