Soundscape Festival

Tasmania's own Soundscape Festival is back for its fifth year and 2012 is shaping up to be its biggest year yet!

Taking place over two days on Friday November 16th and Saturday November 17th, this year the festival finds a new home at The Princes Wharf Shed 1, right on Salamanca Place in Hobart.

New Location, Date & Format & Missy Higgins

The fifth and eagerly awaited installment of Tasmania's own The Soundscape Festival 2012 has been announced to take place over two days Fri Nov 16th / Sat Nov 17th at their new home - PW1.

Tasmanian music fans have become accustomed to a January Soundscape however organizers made the decision to postpone the 2012 event from January to its new home in November for a number of reasons.

Says organiser Brendan Self "we needed to change the event structure and approach with consideration of our industry and current trends. A new location, date, and format will facilitate in us consolidating our position on the Tasmanian event calendar. The date should align with the coming of warmer weather and is the first weekend following University exams. It's a great time to celebrate and Princes Wharf Shed 1 right on Salamanca is the perfect location. This way we have the best of both worlds, central location and protection from bad weather.

Soundscape is celebrating its 5th birthday by going boutique. A reduced capacity means patrons will enjoy less queuing for food, drinks, toilets and enjoy a more intimate experience with the performers. It is all about the experience and making the most of a fabulous, central, waterside location. With two evenings of fabulous music, food and entertainment, festival goers get to enjoy it all at an affordable price and still sleep in a comfortable bed."

And what a line-up it is set to be.

The 1st announcement is that, straight off the back of her killer performance @ Splendour In The Grass last weekend, Soundscape 2012 is very proud to be the only Tasmanian show Missy Higgins will play on her just announced national Razzle Dazzle Summer Australian album launch tour.

The Razzle Dazzle Summer tour follows Missy's recent totally sold out tour of more intimate theatres and last week's US launch of her album The Ol' Razzle Dazzle. While in the US Missy also did sold out launch gigs in Nashville, New York and Los Angeles as well as performing Hello Hello on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Her album has received glowing reviews in major publications from People to The Wall Street Journal and this week it entered the U.S. Billboard 200 at #83 - Missy's highest ever Stateside chart debut and the first time she has made the Top 100 of the Album Chart.

Despite it being five years between releases, The Ol' Razzle Dazzle debuted at #1 in Australia following its release at the beginning of June.

Thanks to the overwhelming media and public reaction to first single Everyone's Waiting, the album is still in the top 10 two months later.

Over the last 4 years Soundscape has had some impressive performances including: Empire Of The Sun, The Living End, PNAU, Grinspoon, Cut Copy, The Grates, The Panics, Urthboy, Tim & Jean, and Blue King Brown. Some of the International acts include Basement Jaxx, Spoon, Mystery Jets, Roots Manuva, Ugly Duckling, Krafty Kuts, Katchafire, Pharoah Monch and Born Ruffians. This year's line up is shaping up really nicely and should be welcomed by a broader demographic.
