Ike and Tina
December 31st 2007 08:33
Ike Turner died this month, creating a maelstorm of weird emotions and half-revoked sentiments... he was half of Ike & Tina Turner, a great musical duo, but he was the half that smacked Tina around. And we're just not down with that, Ike.
But with his death comes the nostalgia... the good ol' times. About leaving a good job in Memphis. Pumping octane in New Orleans.
What good times? Octane? What am I talking about?
Man, you know what I'm talking about:
He was a jerk, but Ike is the dude that made Soul go 'BAAAAAAAD'
Check out his flawless guitar rhythm, perfect for backing Tina's big voice...
From the Times obit:
"Few ever claimed that Turner was a nice man, but his personal failings cannot obscure the significant role he played in the development of blues, R&B and rock'n'roll. History would be unkind and unfair if it were to remember him only as “Mr Tina Turner”."
