Amy Duffy, mostly known as just 'Duffy', hails from Gwynedd in North-west Wales and is one of the most interesting and talented singer/songwriters to have emerged for aeons and has been credited by the UK music industry as the sound of 2008.
The 23 year-old is blessed with soulful and emotionally honest vocals and great songwriting abilities which has seen her and co-writer Bernard Butler of Suede fame create a sound that has often been compared to 60s singer Dusty Springfield.
In late 2007, Duffy finally released her debut single - a limited edition single called "Rockferry" (which later became the title of her debut album). Her follow-up single, "Mercy" (often credited as her 'debut' single given the limited edition nature of "Rockferry"), knocked Swedish DJ Basshunter off the top of the charts to claim the No.1 spot on the UK singles chart as well reaching no.1 in terms of download sales. The single also made Duffy the first Welsh female artist to achieve a no.1 single in 25 years!
Her highly-anticipated debut album, Rockferry, was released on March 3, 2008 to positive reviews from fans and critics alike - The Observer newspaper awarded the albums 5/5 stars. On the back of the success of her two singles and appearances on Jools Holland's music show, the album flew off the shelves with a staggering 60,000 units sold on the first day alone making it well on course to become one of the fastest selling debuts on record.
Rockferry features a total of 10 tracks, all co-written by Duffy with the help of Bernard Butler (4 tracks), Steve Booker (2 tracks), Jimmy Hogarth (4 tracks), and Eg White (3 tracks).
