THE BRAND NEW HEAVIES

THE BRAND NEW HEAVIES
1ST EVER AUSTRALIAN TOUR – AUGUST 2010

Illusive Entertainment is proud to announce that legendary British soul funk band “The Brand New Heavies” [TBNH] are finally making their way to Australia for their first ever live shows, in intimate venues in Sydney and Melbourne. If that wasn’t enough to get people excited, “The Brand New Heavies” Australian Tour will consist of the four original members - Simon Bartholomew on guitar, Jan Kincaid on drums, Andrew Levy playing bass and fan favorite original lead singer N’Dea Davenport on vocals.

With a career spanning more then two decades to date, TBNH were instrumental in the development of the London based Acid Jazz scene, with other notable long standing career artists such as Jamiroquai and Incognito.

In 1990, the Heavies found its voice with the addition of N’Dea Davenport, when introduced to the band via their US label, Delicious Vinyl. It didn’t take long for the group to score a US No. 3 R&B hit with “Never Stop,” a highlight from its self-titled debut album. Their second album “Heavy Rhyme Experience: Vol. 1”, featured the group pairing with rappers like Grand Puba, Kool G. Rap and Gang Starr’s Guru, among others. The album solidified the group’s standing in both the rap and R&B worlds.

The Heavies continued to gain momentum both in UK and America in the 90s where they notched up a string of Top 20 hits with tracks such as - “Never Stop,” “Stay This Way”, “Dream on Dreamer” and “Sometimes” - established the Heavies as a creative and commercial force whose influence helped birth the neo soul movement, the acclaimed artistic explosion of the mid 1990s that included D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and a host of others.

In 2005 and after a decade apart the original Heavies – Jan, Andrew, Simon and N’Dea – got back together, reforming after meeting in New York to discuss working together again. The band released a critically acclaimed new album in 2006 called “Get Used To It” and have been touring almost continuously since then. In 2009 they released their first ever live album – “Live In London”, and have performed in the US on Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel TV shows to name a few, and continue to perform all over the world at a wide variety of Festivals and venues including more recently a co-headlining American tour with Macy Gray and headlining The Capital Jazz Festival in Washington DC.

THE SOUND OF NEXT SUMMER
PARKLIFE 2010 TICKETS ON SALE JULY 1!

Tickets for Parklife 2010 10th birthday go on sale THURSDAY, 01 JULY at www.parklife.com.au. Organisers of the festival, held on the Gold Coast (Sat 25 Sept), Perth (Sun 26 Sept), Melbourne (Sat 2 Oct), Sydney (Sun 3 Oct) and Adelaide (Mon 4 Oct), Fuzzy, say the line-up is their best yet, with tickets expected to sell quickly.
Not just more big acts in total, but some moments Parklife hasn’t seen the likes of, the Festival will feature unique sets fans will be buzzing about all Summer long. Bloc Party lead singer Kele’s smash solo album brings him and his band to Parklife to dazzle us with new tracks, plus the best Bloc Party classics live. Legendary US indie heroes The Dandy Warhols, responsible for some of the catchiest lyrics in modern rock and stars of the cult doco DIG! are joining the Parklife posse and six-time Grammy winner Missy Elliott with a 27-strong all dancing entourage and a brand new album.

Parklife always brings a bunch of hot fresh artists not seen by the Australian public before, and this year is no exception. Darwin Deez, Ou est le Swimming Pool, Dan Black, Chiddy Bang, Memory Tapes, Delorean, The Glitch Mob, Wolf Gang and a bunch more are headed this way for the first time.

Cut Copy will be playing their first Australian show in almost two years at Parklife, having just completed their rumoured-to-be-best-yet third album. Fresh from collaborating with Pharell on her latest album release ‘Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans’, Uffie has a new live show that’ll pop your glocks off! Midnight Juggernauts circle past Saturn and head back to Earth via Parklife with a new live show featuring album number two of dizzying kaleidoscopic pop, ‘The Crystal Axis’. While we’re still working out whether we should really dance around to The Wombats drily comic ‘Lets dance to Joy Division’; the band are holed up in the studio putting the finishing touches to their brand new album. Fuzzy faves Soulwax return to the Parklife fold with a new live show and material that will no doubt reconfirm why they have played over 120 live shows and festivals worldwide, and Holy Ghost! will play their first live shows in Australia.

The first major Australian summer music festival and the biggest outdoor festival for lovers of electronic indie music Parklife attracts crowds of140, 000 nationally, showcasing the world’s most relevant artists playing in some of Australia’s most picturesque city parklands - Gold Coast (Parklands, Sat 25 Sept), Perth (Wellington Square, Sun 26 Sept), Melbourne (The Sidney Myer Music Bowl & King’s Domain, Sat 2 Oct), Sydney (Moore Park, Sun 3 Oct) and Adelaide (Botanic Gardens, Mon 4 Oct).

Fuzzy Co-Founder John Wall is excited about the future direction of Parklife. “We have more bands than ever before taking the stage this year, with a really cool indie vibe. We know these guys are going to be on everyone’s lips and stereos by the time summer rolls round. For example, Missy hasn’t been to OZ since 2004. With her new album Block Party due out the same time she tours OZ for Parklife, we know she is going to be putting on an incredibly hot show. Kele, the lead-singer and guitarist of Bloc Party, is on a solo mission and will be debuting tracks of his new album The Boxer for his first time in Australia. Groove Armada has taken a whole new dark direction with their music on their latest album Black Light, so we can’t wait to see their new live show. The Dandy’s sold out their last tour in Australia and are going to be a special treat for Parklifers with their signature psychedelic sound.”

Ming Gan, the other half of Fuzzy’s founders, charged with booking the line-up agrees. “It’s just so encompassing this year. We have our first Spanish band Delorean – a foursome who have literally just released their new album Subiza and are coming down-under for the first time; and Parisian-based electronic artist Uffie who recently teamed up with Pharell to produce SUV, is edgier than ever. Berlin based Jesse Rose, credited with starting the fidget house movement, is coming back to Parklife... and hopefully won’t steal any more golf carts - Brissy you know what we’re talking about! We’ve got Dan Black coming to Australia for the first time – he’s been causing a big stir on the radio and internet and climbing the charts with his track Symphonies featuring Kid Kudi. We’ve also got Ou Est Le Swimming Pool and Chiddy Bang who have been featuring massively on the ARIA Charts and will both be playing their first live shows in Oz at Parklife.”
