BLACKBURN GARDENS HOSTS 23RD POETS' PICNIC
The Poets' Picnic is one of the highlights on Sydney's literary calendar.
Now in its 23rd year, this unique event promises a memorable evening of poetry by Sydney Harbour with readings by some of our country's best-loved poets.
This popular outdoor event boasts one of the best views in Sydney. Bring a picnic blanket and relax under the stars with poetry readings, listen to some smooth jazz tunes, or duck into the mysterious Haiku Hut for a private reading with Haiku poet Jane Gibian.
ABCs Simon Marnie will MC the night while audiences are treated to an array of readings from an eclectic generation of poets – from the established and celebrated Vivian Smith and Alan Wearne to some exciting new voices including Kit Brookman, 2011 Sydney City Poet Kate Middleton, Carol Jenkins, Tricia Dearborne and more.
We'll also be joined by Special Guest author and TV presenter, Jessica Rowe. Jessica is one of our best known television presenters. She began her career almost two decades ago and has held a variety of positions including ten years as co-host of Network Ten’s First at Five News. Jessica is passionate about news and current affairs as well as advocacy work for mental health organisations.
This year's theme is Talking About My Generation and the diverse range of poets will reflect on their personal memories, the momentous events and the hopes and dreams of past, present and future generations.
