Ukelele and Washboard

December 18th 2008 09:34
Old School Ukelele Kazoo and Washboard
For this post, we're going back.

How far we going back?

Real far back.

Out to 1929, comes this rare video of two cats, one on the uke, one on kazoo and washboard, getting down like Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.

That guy on the washboard? Money. Anyone that can pick up a kazoo and a washboard and play a good jam without coming off like a eccentric loser is a big mack daddy player. You know how it is - if you dropped a little improvised washboard on the street today, people'd be throwing $5 bills at your feet.

Give those kids a room out back, give 'em some beans and pork, and tell 'em to play here three times a week. Kids from the city will love it!

You might be getting a little weary of preachy hip hop, but as long as hip hop has a powerful commercial presence, there'll always be the artists that want to push back.

This year, they came to prominence with a song called "Handlebars", which would appear to be about a guy riding a bike with no handlebars

Francoise Hardy was a hugely influential French singer that brought a delicious mix of music and fashion to the 60s... her slender figure, dressed in fitted outfits made her look elegant. Her songs were unusually catchy, even for those of us without enough French to understand what the hell she was saying...
