The Fray was put together in 2002; and played locally in Denver, Colorado for a few years before really taking off big. Many of you may be familiar with their debut album that came out in 2005: How To Save A Life. Several TV show soundtracks used the title track from the album as well as Over My Head (Cable Car) during 2005-6; and subsequently both songs made it into the top ten on the Billboard charts. The band isn't exactly a "hard rockin" combo, but more of a mellow piano-rock band.....think Billy Joel meets The Dave Matthews Band. If you would like to check out the band's official website, click HERE.

The lead singer of The Fray, Isaac Slade, is also the bands piano player. His piano-bar style is reminiscent of early Billy Joel......but Slade's mellow vocals often times reminded me of The Dave Matthews Band. Not a bad combination, really. The music is soulful, in a "ballad" sort of way. Like I said, it's not music to bang your head or pump iron to.....but more for chillin' out, or even getting frisky on the sofa.....

The bands self-titled second album, The Fray, was released on February 3, 2009. It was an immediate hit, making it to the Billboard Top 100 charts within a week. The first two singles off the album have gotten alot of airplay: You Found Me and Never Say Never. Both songs also found their way into movie and TV soundtracks...and consequently the Billboard charts too. (these guys must have a helluva promoter, or either Slade must have a relative at one of the studios!)

You Found Me is almost a Christian song, and has actually been promoted on alot of Christian music sites. In it, Slade asks God what took Him so long to find him in his time of need. Personally, I find the lyrics kind of "whiny"......but the song does have a catchy tune and chorus. Never Say Never is sort of a love song/ballad. I liked this song the very first time I heard it; and it now currently resides on my iPod in the "Music to F**k to" folder. Heehee!!! Below are the YouTube videos of the songs; first is You Found Me, then below it is Never Say Never. Enjoy!!!!!....

PopMusicology Sex Sells: Music for Strippers

This is the first review in our new category called "Sex Sells: Music for Strippers". The title kind of speaks for itself, but just for clarification.....this category is going to spotlight songs that strippers love to dance to!!!! That's right, thousands of sexy ladies swinging on a stripper pole CAN'T be wrong!!!! Every now and then a song comes out that has just the right beat, bass line, and that special grinding rhythm that makes it perfect for... well, Stripping!!! Our goal in this category, Sex Sells, is to prove that a band can make the charts simply by finding that magic combination that strippers love. First in our series.....

I lost my heart to a starship trooper

Hot Gossip Sarah Brightman I lost my heart to a starship trooper

I quite enjoyed "Starship Troopers", Paul Vehoeven's candied adaptation of the Robert Heinlein novel. The film won praise and scorn for deviating from the tone of Heinlein's book, projecting a sense of anti-war satire.
