Michael Jackson converts to Islam

Billie Jean wasn't his lover, and he was both Bad and Dangerous, but Michael Jackson has finally converted to Islam, leaving his Western animal farm behind.

That's right - Neverland is closed, the pathers were sent home, and Michael Jackson is dressing up as a Muslim woman in Bahrain.

The news around the world, despite the worsening economic crisis, is that Michael Jackson has converted and changed his name to Mikaeel.

"Last year his brother, Jermaine Friday, suggested Jackson would convert having taken an interest in Islam since Friday's conversion in 1989.

"When I came back from Mecca I got him a lot of books and he asked me lots of things about my religion and I told him that it's peaceful and beautiful," said Friday.

"He read everything and he was proud of me that I found something that would give me inner strength and peace. "

I can understand Jackson's inner conflict... he was a world famous entertainer, a creator of music. Then, because he started acting a little strange, his country looked at him like a freak, someone to laugh at. Simultaneously, he was charged with being a pedophile, and that's how he'll always be remembered, even though he was absolved of any guilt.

Michael Jackson Thriller dance zombie

Despite the advancing age of Michael Jackson and his albums, there's never any shortage of people willing to make their own homage. With the rise of YouTube, it's gotten even more widespread, with the 'Thriller' homemades spreading to other countries.

A search on Youtube yields about 120 000 hits, but I'm hoping they're not all Michael Jackson impersonations.

No, at least some of them should be related to Muhammed Ali and the 'Thiller in Manila'. Or video reviews of tepid Hollywood thrillers.

What about the French, though? Are they wise to the MJ scene? Do they have a need to express their inner Thilller? It seems they do, but they're just willing to put a lot more work in it.

This first video was found on Monkey Review, and is of a French dude named François Macré, who decided to take 64 video tracks of himself and assemble the song, acappella.

It's awesome, but I can't help but wonder how strained he was to work on it. Certainly, recording some of fthe percussion work was dull and exhausting? Anyway, with a press of a button we can enjoy the fruits of his labours, which is what the Internet is all about, anyway.

The second video was made by some French school, that decided to involve the entire place in a one-shot steadycam tribute to 'Thriller'.

It's not as impressive, but it is a pretty good video, shot like a marketing video for the school. Some of those kids need to get out of their private school and see what actual street kids look like when they're hanging around, though.
