Earlier this year, Mr Sparro ruffled a few feathers when he slagged Madonna by telling a UK interviewer he thought she was "wretched", "vulgar" and "not young and sexy anymore". Controversial statement or not, it certainly got this Australian singer-songwriter noticed but his self-titled debut album is anything but controversial and certainly not boring.

It's a solid offering of discofied electro-dunk, with his soulful tones used to full effect across a constantly shifting spectrum of dance styles. Some of the lyrics are a bit juvenile but on the large part, his songs likes to tackle big ideas about the world and our place in it such as his hit debut single, "Black and Gold", which peaked at no.2 on the UK Singles Chart and no.4 on the ARIA Singles Chart back home.

Sam Sparro Track Listing:

1. Too Many Questions
2. Black & Gold (Marcussen Album Version)
3. 21st Century Life
4. Sick
5. Waiting For Time
6. Recycle It!
7. Cottonmouth
8. Hot Mess
9. Pocket
10. Cut Me Loose
11. Sally
12. Clingwrap
13. Can't Stop This / Still Hungry

Ne-Yo - Year Of The Gentleman

Ne-Yo

Popular US singer-songwriter-producer Ne-Yo's third studio album, Year Of The Gentleman, was released in Australia on September 20, 2008 and is named in honour of Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra.

Citing the two legends as the inspiration behind his music and clothes, you could be forgiven that he actually meant Michael Jackson judging from the album's first single "Closer" - the MJ-esque vocals and dance moves in the music video are clearly evident.

"Years ago, if you weren't wearing the right suit or have a correct crease in your pants, you couldn't even get in the door--let alone on stage to perform," said Ne-Yo.

"For me, the sharpness of Sammy and Sinatra is the kind of style I strive for in clothes and music. 'Year of the Gentleman' is named in honor of those guys." he added.
